Charting New Frontiers: New Light Technologies at ASPRS Mid-South 2024

Introduction

As we continue to explore and expand the horizons of geospatial science, New Light Technologies (NLT) is excited to announce our participation in the ASPRS Mid-South Regional Conference 2024. This event promises to unite experts and enthusiasts from various sectors to discuss and disseminate cutting-edge geospatial data applications, particularly focusing on climate security.

Event Overview

Set against the innovative backdrop of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, this year’s conference is themed around "Mapping, Monitoring, and Modeling for Climate Security."  Scheduled for May 9–10 at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the conference will feature a series of sessions including keynotes, workshops, and discussions led by notable figures in the geospatial community.

REDICOP's Spotlight Session

Highlighting our involvement, Dr. Ran Goldblatt and Dr. Garrett Tate from NLT will facilitate a REDICOP session alongside our REDICOP co-organizer, Katie Picchione from MIT Lincoln Labs. This session will dive into the crucial roles that Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) play in enhancing data-driven decisions for environmental resilience and emergency response in an era of climate change.

Key Events and Features

Day 1 Highlights:

  • Start the day with keynote speeches addressing environmental data integration and applications for climate security from Dr. David Hughes and Clinton Stipek from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
  • The session in Room G, the REDICOP meet-up, promises to be a pivotal part of the conference’s agenda.

Day 2 Highlights:

  • Keynote speeches from Dr. Matt McCarthy and Heidi Tubbs of Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
  • Engage in hands-on workshops like "Broad Area Monitoring in Support of Climate Security" and "Hyperspectral Image Analysis with ENVI," which align closely with our mission to advance geospatial technology applications.

About REDICOP

The Remote Sensing in Disasters Community of Practice (REDICOP) is co-organized by MIT Lincoln Laboratory (MIT LL) and New Light Technologies (NLT). REDICOP seeks to optimize the application of remote sensing advancements in the emergency management community, acting as a bridge between theoretical and applied research, and operational implementation. With partners from Federal, State, and local agencies, public sector research groups, NGOs, academia, and the private sector, the initiative will focus on building a collaborative platform to advance remote sensing technologies and methods in disaster management and to jointly develop guidelines, standards, and workflows that enable emergency managers to use remote sensing technologies and products effectively.
