Introduction

This year, New Light Technologies (NLT) is thrilled to be back at and be part of FedGeoDay 2024, an essential gathering that showcases open geospatial ecosystems and their increasing role in federal operations. Join us for two action-packed days of learning and networking at the Yates Auditorium of the Department of Interior and the American Red Cross in Washington, DC.

Event Highlights

  • Dates & Venue: The main sessions will occur on April 30 at the Yates Auditorium, with additional workshops on May 1 at the American Red Cross.
  • Keynote Speaker: Dr. Budhendra Bhaduri of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) will be the keynote speaker, bringing his vast experience focusing on novel implementations of geospatial science and technology across energy, environment, and national security missions. This year we have an additional Keynote Speech with Dr. Nadine Alameh of the Taylor Geospatial Institute, who will lead a Fireside Chat to continue discussing how open-source software can assist us in building open-source assets.
  • Workshop Participation: NLT’s own Rob Pitts will lead a session on optimizing emergency management with open data and tools.
  • We’ll have a booth! The NLT team will be ready to discuss our work with various federal agencies and the implementation of various open-source geospatial products and services we have been developing over the last twenty years to support customers like the Census, USDA, FEMA, USACE, and others.

Our Involvement

  • Sponsorship and Participation: As sponsors, NLT is not only supporting some of the event's logistics but also actively participating with a booth where you can meet our team, discuss your project needs, and explore our work. We will also be participating in sessions highlighting open-source software's use in building robust software and data assets, including COTS solutions like ESRI’s vast software and data ecosystems, including open-source data and tools.

  • Rob Pitts’ Session: This session will focus on the IMPACT framework designed for incident management and response effectiveness for emergency management operations at federal, state, and local agency levels. It will be conducted by NLT's Rob Pitts, who has a long history of designing and implementing sustainable solutions to meet customer demands!
