Position Title: Machine Learning Engineer

Location: Washington, DC Area

Clearance: Current TS/SCI ISSA (FS Poly) required

Salary: Negotiable based on commensurate experience and education.

Experience: 3 years of professional experience and a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, geography, or a related field.

Position Description: The Machine Learning (ML) Engineer will further develop of a framework and models in Python utilize the machine learning (ML) framework TensorFlow and other standard data science libraries (e.g. numpy, pandas, etc) to perform machine learning and deep learning (DL) tasks on ground and overhead based imagery. This position will assist in creating and curation of label data to assist in the development and refinement of ML models for object detection or classification. In addition, the ML Engineer will provide clean outputs from the models developed so that they can be utilized in out geospatial applications (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.) or other web-based map viewers.

The ML Engineer will have a strong background in object-oriented programming in Python or other similar programming languages (R, Java, etc.), and have a proficient background in data science and apply this background to a geospatial problem sets.

In addition, the ML Engineer will have strong knowledge of how to utilize high-performance computing and GPU server in successfully completing the duties assigned by the customer. The expected duties to be performed by the subcontractor will include the creation of ML and DL models and algorithms to answer a variety of questions for the customer. Including but not limited to, specific objects of interest in imagery (both overhead and ground based), object recognition and orientation for advance analysis, and imagery classification.

Other Technical Skills:

  • Pandas/Geopandas, Shapley, Rasterio, TensorFlow, Keras, and Jupyer, GDAL, Annotorious or other labeling packages.
  • Some knowledge of geospatial software such as ArcGIS, QGIS (or willingness and ability to learn)
  • Experience with SQL, PostGreSQL/PostGIS
  • Knowledge of best practices for data standards, data management, data quality

  • Technical understanding of the systems supporting aspects of the functional areas.
  • Knowledge of standard tools [e.g., the Agency Data Services Network (ADSN), iCE workstations, Microsoft Office, the Agency Internet Network (AIN), and the Microsoft Office software applications], as appropriate; and a demonstrated ability to learn to use and support other tools that may be added or developed as the program evolves.
  • Flexibility in assisting with ad hoc tasks and in adjusting as tasks are re-prioritized.

Travel: Minimal CONUS travel may be required.
