Park and Planning Commission

New Light Technologies, Inc. (NLT) in partnership with ESRI, provided database migration, data quality verification, and training to M-NCPPC
in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Work involved migrating M-NCPPC’s disparate countywide GIS data files, from ESRI’s coverage model to a centralized relational database management system based on Oracle and ArcSDE.Among other things, NLT designed a new enterprise Oracle GIS database, converted and loaded legacy data using custom data conversion models and performed data enhancement as well as quality control. NLT designed QA/QC controls which identified and rectified data corruption or data loss due to malfunctions within the migration process.NLT also trained M-NCPPC staff in the use of ESRI’s enterprise GIS tools, principally ArcSDE. NLT and ESRI established quality assurance/quality control procedures and rectified data corruption and data loss due to malfunctions within the migration process. The data loading process identified data that failed to convert or was unusable for any reason, including errors, omissions, and anomalies. Total feature/object counts were independently identified and verified by ESRI and NLT. The results were used to compare input/output object/feature counts between the input source data and the final geodatabase feature classes.
